Here at Cheslyn Hay Primary School children are provided with a well -balanced Physical Education programme designed to inspire and encourage them to enjoy participation and gain personal success. It strives to motivate pupils to further develop their individual potential as well as create positive attitudes towards physical activity.
Specialised coaches and staff endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable and challenging learning experiences for all children. This is achieved through a balance of individual, paired, and group activities; cooperative, collaborative and competitive situations which cater for the preferences, strengths and needs of every pupil.
Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of health and begin to understand those factors that affect healthy lifestyle choices and fitness.
What does Physical Education look like at Cheslyn Hay Primary?
Every child participates in two physical education lessons per week. Activities include games, gymnastics, dance, outdoor and adventurous activities, athletics and swimming all of which aim to promote a broad base of movement knowledge, skills and understanding.
Specialist sports coaches’ work with all classes throughout the year, teaching children a range of specific sporting skills. Every year, all children participate in sports day with an emphasis on enjoyment, participation and team building.
Children are encouraged to take up opportunities to participate in extra curricular activities and competitive sporting events both in school and outside of school. As a school we participate in a variety of cluster sporting events such as tag rugby, golf, netball, hockey, cricket, rounder’s, multi-skills, athletics and football.
From learning the discipline of following rules and regulations of specific sports to encouraging the free expression that aspects of physical education allows, Cheslyn Hay Primary is committed to promoting the opportunity as well as the need to be physically active. The school subscribes to the values that physical education promotes; independent challenge, teamwork and co-operation, the gaining of skill and technique, the building of self-esteem, the maintaining of healthy lifestyles and the concept of sportsmanship.
